Model essay answer to question from last week

Anyone who commits a crime should be prosecuted. Some people believe, myself included, that serving a community is a more effective way to stop reoffending than financial penalty. So what are the benefits deriving from doing community service?
First and foremost, offenders are being requested to spend their precious time on voluntary work. Paying a fine is relatively unchallenging when compared to weeks or even months of labour a lawbreaker has to devote to local society free of charge.
Additionally, community service is sometimes the only way to gain the knowledge about hazards arising from felonies. For example, if a person has been caught speeding, an adequate service one should do is to become a lollipop man at a local school crossing.
Finally, spending time and helping out a local society may positively influence wrongdoers. They begin to contemplate on their behaviour and eventually come to conclusion that they are capable of making a positive difference in society.
In conclusion, creative way of punishment in a form of community service is without a doubt a more efficient way to halt reoffending. Not only the local society benefits from it but also the lawbreaker who learns the lesson.

Article - Model answer 1

A charity event to remember
So why did I decide to do a 90-km walk in six days along the Great Wall of China? Well, the reason was that our local children's hospital needed to raise money or it would be close. However, I didn't realise how big a challenge it would be.
Before I went, I thought that I would be walking along a flat surface but when I saw the Great Wall, my heart sank. Part of the time we would be trekking up hundreds of high steps and, worryingly, some of the paths had steep falls on either side and there was nowhere to go because we were surrounded by mountains and forests. However, after a while, I started to love the experience. I was in one of the most amazing places on earth and the views were incredible.
In the end, the adventure was a great success. The hospital was delighted because a group of us managed to raise several thousand pounds.
Would I be keen to help the hospital again next year? Yes, but I think I'll try and find an easier challenge next time!

Issues to be considered are the effort and time of the punishment, the lesson learnt from the punishment and the financial situation of the criminal. So which is more effective: community service or fines?

Community service advantages
Fines advantages
·        They do jobs that others don’t want to do

·        In the long term it is more effective
